The Benefits Calculation Administrator is responsible for delivering timely and accurate results for the non-automated pension calculations and associated processes. There is a strong emphasis on quality and timeliness of work performed. In addition, the administrator works closely with the Benefits Operations Manager (BOM) to streamline, automate, and/or standardize the group's processes.

Responsibility Areas

  • Review and analyze business requirements, plan provisions, and other data sources to calculate participant benefits manually or with the aid of a calculation workbook.
  • Research complex participant benefit issues impacting calculations and formulate resolutions/ recommendations by analyzing fact patterns and applying provisions and best practices. Provide resolution in accordance with due dates and documented processes.
  • Conduct calculation system edit clean up including researching, and determining reasons for, and resolving errors. This may include working directly with client or third party vendor to obtain correct data/information.
  • Create relevant personalized communication statements.
  • Works with Benefits Operations Manager to recommend process improvements, and along with coaching and training opportunities that were identified from participant issues, recurring edits, process delays, and quality problems.

Qualifications - Internal Knowledge and Experience

  • Benefits Administration in Defined Benefits/Pension preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including presentation skills.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to multi-task and drive and prioritize own work.
  • Skilled at properly researching, identifying, and documenting issues.
  • Effective working in a team environment.
  • Excellent research, computation, and analysis skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with data mining and interpreting results.
  • General knowledge of administrative systems and processes.
  • Ability to execute key operations management routines and identify enhancement opportunities.
  • Effective use of basic business productivity tools and Microsoft applications.
  • Proficient in Excel

Formal Education & Certification

  • Bachelor's degree (with concentrations in Math, Actuarial Science, Finance or business context preferred) or equivalent work experience required.

Work Conditions

  • Occasional evening and weekend work to meet deadlines.
  • Work with global resources which may require flexible hours.
  • Frequent computer use at workstation up to 2 hours at a time or for extended periods of time.
  • Access information using a computer and related components and peripherals.
  • Participation in training sessions, presentations, and meetings.
