Job Summary:

The position of Plant Engineering Systems Technician located in Menomonie, WI will be responsible for performing routine and non-routine Plant Engineering work as assigned in electrical controls and system maintenance.

This position provides an opportunity to transition from other private, public, government or military environments to a 3M career.

 Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Diagnose, analyze, troubleshoot, service, and repair of process and facility equipment
  • Troubleshoot and perform repair-type maintenance on process controls and facility support equipment including but not limited to, PLC’s, controls networks, AC/DC drives and motors, Servos and motion control systems, and pneumatic devices
  • Troubleshoot and calibrate circuits, systems and devices used in the measurement and /or control of, but not limited to, current, voltage, temperature, vacuum, pressure, level, weight/density, tensions, steering, speed, flow and frequency
  • Read and interpret elementary, PID and industrial controls drawings, interpret PLC logic, blueprints, sketches, vendor drawings and equipment service manuals as required by work assignments
  • Contact and network with vendors to obtain parts and service support when needed
  • Document maintenance and related functions using a CMMS Shop Work Order System, electronic and manual log books, and effectively communicate using e-mail and other systems
  • Work with engineers, technicians or craft people during troubleshooting, repair or modify equipment, systems or processes
  • Contribute technical recommendations for the improvement or optimization of facility equipment and/or process equipment as needed

This position will require working:

  • Weekend work
  • Holidays as needed
  • Short notice shift coverage
  • Any shift available, including, but not limited to, first, second, third or rotating

This position may require working:

  • Overtime

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Possess a High School Diploma/GED or higher
  • Currently possess or in the last seven (7) months of obtaining a two (2) year technical degree in an electrical controls maintenance field OR a minimum of two (2) years industrial maintenance experience in a private, public, government or military environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possess an Associate's degree in a technical discipline AND a minimum of five (5) years industrial maintenance experience
  • Experience with manufacturing and/or manufacturing technology on web processing equipment
  • Experience working with Allen Bradley controls and drive technologies
  • Experience working with Windows-based computer systems
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with people at all levels of the organization
