Janssen Pharma R&D, a member of Johnson & Johnson's Family of Companies, is recruiting Co-ops who are interested in participating in research projects in efforts to gain work experience within the therapeutic area of Oncology Translational Research. One area of work is to develop assays (functional tools) and discover biomarkers to profile patients with and potentially apply these assays and biomarkers to clinical trials when testing a therapeutics mechanism of action and efficacy.



The Co-op will:

  • Learn to develop assays for single cell analysis. Here we are developing tools to effectively dissociate cells within a patient’s tumor, enrich specific populations within these tumors and isolate single-cells on platforms for down-stream high-throughput sequencing and analysis
  • Work primarily with a variety of lab scientists who have different skill sets that we can draw from in-order to accomplish this project.
  • Potentially learn a variety of cellular (i.e. tissue culturing, flow cytometry) and molecular (i.e. nucleic acid isolation, PCR, sequencing) based techniques as well as becoming versed in analyzing gene expression and sequencing data.

  • Candidates must be enrolled in an accredited college/university pursuing (Biology, Microbiology, Molecular Cell Biology & Biochemistry, Medical Bioengineering).
  • Candidates must be available to work (Full-time).
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States and not require sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g. H1-B status) now or in the future. 
  • Demonstrated leadership is preferred.
  • Candidates must be detail-oriented, highly organized and able to manage multiple tasks.
  • Candidates must have the ability to work individually (independently) as well as on a team.
  • Candidates need to be proficient with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel (including a high proficiency with generating pivot tables and graphs), and Power Point, and have strong oral and written communication skills. Additional technical competencies in Sharepoint and other information technology systems are highly desirable, as is experience with PubMed databases and other literature databases.
  • Candidates with academic and/or industrial, molecular or cellular biology laboratory experience are strongly preferred.
  • A minimum G.P.A. of 3.0 is strongly preferred.
  • Participation in campus/community service activities is desired.
